Imagine a neighborhood of new homes designed specifically for homeless veterans — those who have served America in branches of the military and sacrificed for the freedoms we all enjoy. 

The neighborhood would be known as Mighty Hero Homes and consist of 84 tiny homes. The homes for veterans will be built near the Georgia War Veterans Home on property recently acquired from the Central State Hospital Local Redevelopment Authority.

Drew Walston, founder and chief executive officer of Mighty Hero Homes, a nonprofit organization dedicated to eradicating veteran homelessness, recently talked about the project at a Milledgeville City Council meeting.

“It’s an honor and a pleasure to report that we are going to build an 84-home community for homeless veterans right here in Milledgeville,” Walston said.

“Milledgeville is going to serve as the tip of the spear, if you will, to combat the egregious crisis that we have in our nation for veteran homelessness.”
